Etude Reflexion No.3 (Tones)

Etude Reflexion No.3 (Tones)

Though this reflection may appear to be more about pure music (tones) then a subject like the others, to me it has a definite subject that is one of the dearest to my heart, music itself. The piece is based on three slowly unfolding progressions in succession. So in this piece the reflection is the musical material itself, rather than what it invokes. The first 20 or so notes are taken directly from the harmonic overtone series (according to wikipedia), the second 12 form a twelve-tone row, then after that there is a repeating patterns of open fifths. What this is meant to achieve is breaking down three different composition methods to their bare minimums, thus allowing them time to breathe and to be experienced and appreciated. Or for the non-classically trained musician just be something slow and meditative to listen to.
