ABOUT ME (2017).
Composer and writer Jakub Marshall comes from a background of eclectic influences and inherent interdisciplinarity. He seeks to unite the disparate trends of a fractured musical landscape back into a personal whole. As a school age youth in Winnipeg, he participated in the Music Cellar school where he studied classical, jazz and pop piano repertoires. Through the music cellars annual ensemble program as well as a slew of gigging indie rock bands, Marshall developed a keen interest in popular music that has grown into a strong research interest in his graduate studies.
In 2013 Marshall began studies in the Music School at Brandon University. Initially studying piano, he soon switched into the Composition stream, studying with award winning composer Dr. Patrick Carrabre. As a student, Marshall acquired an interest in a diverse array of musics and subjects, while honing his unique musical style of contemporary classical music. Influenced by such modern composers as Philip Glass, Gyorgy Ligeti and Nico Muhly, as well as pop innovators such as Radiohead, Marshall's personal style is an evocative and affective fusion of diverse influences.
Set to embark on a graduate program in Musicology in the fall, Marshall excitedly anticipates his future as a researcher, student and creative professional.
